If we make the claim that the Bible is inerrant, we invite people to prove us otherwise, and so we create lifetime skeptics that can not move past our alleged Biblical inerrancy to see the message of love and hope contained within its pages.
As Christians, we must never put the Bible on a pedestal, so that we force others to look up to it. We are to guide others to look up to God. The Bible, and anything other than a personal relationship with God, is a platform to knowing God. We must always worship God in spirit and truth, and we lead others to do the same.
The writers of the Gospels did not have to have all their “facts” right; they wrote what they believed was truth. They didn’t have to have every word perfect, because if we look at the different translations and source materials we have today, how can anyone come up with the same dots and tittles, when we can’t even agree on basic tenets of theology? The Bible is a *collection* of scriptures. They can be harmonized, but forcing others to agree that the dots and tittles of English translations must be identical across the board is unreasonable. The message endures, and that is what we are to spread as Gospel.
